Mineral-based composite, composite or cedar wood deck boards
Price, appearance, and maintenance are the main factors in choosing decking boards. Our pros have installed them all and can take you through the best product for your design and personal outdoor living space. Learn about our decking boards and installation materials below.
PVC decking is composed almost entirely of polyvinyl chloride and contains no natural wood fibers.
PVC decking provides robust fade and stain resistance and lower maintenance requirements compared to composite and particularly wood. As a result PVC decking tends to be a more expensive decking board option.
Voyage decking, powered by Deckorators’ patented Surestone® MBC technology, eliminates wood fibers for unmatched resistance to rot, mold, mildew, and insects. Ideal for Spokane’s wet winters and Coeur d’Alene’s sunny summers, it’s the top choice for decking boards in Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, and North Idaho. Key features include:
Installing Deckorators Voyage decking boards in Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, and North Idaho is straightforward with the right tools. Grooved-edge boards use hidden fasteners like StealthLock™ Universal Deck Clips (with CAMO tools) or TurboClip™ for a clean, screw-free finish with ¼” spacing. Solid-edge boards, ideal for picture-frame borders or stairs, are top-fastened with composite deck screws, predrilled and countersunk for a polished look. We recommend FastenMaster Cortex® plugs for hidden top-fastening on both grooved and solid boards.
To estimate Voyage decking for your project, calculate your deck’s square footage and divide by the board’s coverage. For a 5.5” board (0.46 sq ft/linear ft), a 12 x 12 deck (144 sq ft) requires ~313 linear ft, or ~20 boards at 16’ length. Add 10% for waste and round up (e.g., 22 boards).
Voyage decking comes in six stunning colors, including Costa, Khaya, Sierra, Sedona, Mesa, and Tundra, offering natural wood-grain patterns. Choose a single color for a sleek look or mix-and-match for creative picture-framing and custom designs, perfect for Eastern Washington and North Idaho decks
Composite decking is a mixture of recycled plastics and wood fibers that make up the core of the board. Composite deck boards can be capped or uncapped. We highly recommend modern deck boards as the hard plastic shell resists staining, mold and fading. It is in this cap that the colors, textures, UV and scratch resistance is placed. This happens simultaneously as it is formed in the extrusion process when boards are made in a factory.
Composite Decking Advantages
The positive aspects of composite decking are that there are more vibrant colors and shading, more wood grain feel, and an all-around denser deck board.
The negatives are that the boards are heavier than PVC decking and can absorb a bit more heat increasing temperatures. Finally, since there are some wood fibers, over the long term there is a possibility of breakdown and moisture absorption. Most modern composite deck boards perform well for decades with great warranties.
Composite decking comes in a grooved and square edge form factor. We order grooved for the body of a deck and square edge for the border. A square edge is only available in 20 ft lengths.
Composite decking material is installed is typically installed with hidden fasteners or screws and plugs or with the Turboclip hidden fasner system.

If you love the look and feel of real wood and the occasional refinishing and maintenance is not a problem, then a wood deck may be right for you.
A wood deck usually costs about 15 to 20 percent less than a synthetic deck on installation, however new and future staining and finishing usually push the cost of wood close to synthetic. That said, the right wood to choose is solid in performance and appearance. We offer Port Orford Cedar Decking as it is very strong with tight knots and graded well. This means the wood is not soft as you would find in a thinner red cedar, and its smaller knots and higher density provide a more straight, easier-to-install, and maintain deck board.
The natural beauty and decay resistance of Port Orford Cedar makes it ideal for decking. It is also one of the strongest cedars with strength values that far exceed both Western Red and Redwood.

Penofin, SuperDeck, Cabot’s and Timber Pro UV Natural Wood Finishes provide premium penetrating oil stains in a transparent coating which allows the beauty of the cedar to show through. Each brand offers a cedar tone that is close to the new color of Port Orford cedar, but will change the hue slightly. Other tones can be used as well, but we suggest you test the color first as each wood species will yield different results than can be shown. Please note that the products have different application directions.
Penofin choices include: The Ultra Premium Red label gives 99% UV protection. The best color match with Port Orford cedar is the Ultra Premium Cedar.
SuperDeck offers its 1900 series for cedar. The best color match with Port Orford cedar is 1902.
Cabot’s Clear Solution in the natural tone offers a look that is more neutral and works well if you want the silvery gray look of weathered cedar. Please be aware however that clear finishes do not offer the same UV protection as the transparent ones listed above.
Timber Pro UV Natural Wood Finishes are award-winning stains that are manufactured in Oregon yet widely used in Canada and the US by many top cedar home companies and custom deck builders. The “Deck & Fence Formula” comes in Clear UV or 25 beautiful transparent cedar tones and it is an environmentally safe, penetrating sealer that is oil-based yet nonflammable and cleans up with water. It is sold factory-direct because it is a specialty finish.

When it comes time to begin fastening your decking boards to your deck frame you have several options.
Wolf and Armadillo Deck boards can be installed with top screws and matching plugs or the camo tool edge screws.
Armadillo decking can also be installed with the Turboclip hidden fastener system.
Port Orford Cedar decking can be top screwed of use the camo tool edge screws. Learn more about each system below.
The Cortex Hidden Fastening System is the fastest, easiest way to hide fasteners in composite, capstock, and PVC decking boards. It is available in a variety of colors to blend in with the most popular decking brands.
Cortex offers a strong connection between the deck board and joist. It hides fasteners across the entire deck, first and last board, perimeter and stairs.
Insert the TurboClip Universal Hidden Deck Clip into the groove of the deck board. Unlike regular deck clips, TurboClip Universal Hidden Deck Clips come in “sticks” of 16, so you aren’t continuously reaching for another clip at every joist.
Drive the preloaded screw through the Universal Hidden Deck Clip and into the deck support. TurboClip Universal Hidden Deck Clips come with preloaded, stainless steel screws, so you do not have to worry about dropping screws while lining up and placing each clip.
Snap off the remaining stick of TurboClip . To continue your decking install, simply snap off the clip that you previously screwed in and continue across the length of the board. You will be amazed at how quickly you are able to complete your deck installation.
One of the more difficult aspects of deck framing is the stairs. We can take all the guesswork out of that. By simply providing the exact height of the finished deck from the landing of the stairs, our deck installation professionals can design and pre-cut the stair stringers needed to build the steps. This will meet all code, safety and strength requirements and allow you to easily build your own safe and strong stairs.
If you need pre-cut stair stringers in in your deck framing package, click here
Stairs- we calculate our stairs at 4 ft wide so we get 8 feet of square edge per step.
Stair riser- composite decking has 8-inch riser boards to make the kick plate. PVC is only 12 inches.
Fascia comes as 1x12x12 only
